Common Spine and Exercise Myths Debunked

admin_chiroHealth TipsNo CommentsMarch 19, 2012

Are crunches the best form of core strengthening? Is having an extremely flexible spine good for you? What is the proper way to pick up objects?

There are many misconceptions out there about what makes a good core workout, what exercises are beneficial for your back, and how to properly perform daily activities while minimizing your risk of injury. All of these topics are briefly discussed in the following video by University of Waterloo kinesiology professor Stuart McGill, one of the world’s foremost experts on spine biomechanics.  Dr. McGill provides insight about back injury, exercise, proper lifting, and strengthening the core.  Use this information to correct the wrong ideas you currently have and the mistakes you have been making during your daily routine for way too long!

Don’t forget that functional rehabilitation is a big part of what we do here at New Heights Chiropractic and Rehabilitation.  Ask the doctors about some other great ways to strengthen your core and exercise properly in order to maintain a healthy spine!
